A VISCOUS-FLOW APPROACH TO THE COMPUTATION OF PROPELLER-HULL INTERACTION
A technique for calculating propeller-hull interaction is described. It uses a numerical method for calculating the viscous flow over the stern and in the wake of a ship, coupling it with a propeller- performance program in an interactive and iterative manner to predict the combined flow field. Some sample results are provided for an axisymmetric and a three-dimensional body to demonstrate the overall procedures, including the nature of an interactive solution, and to highlight the essential features of the solutions. The results are in close agreement with the available experimental data and show that the procedures can accurately simulate many details of the flow field.
