FIBRE OPTIC ROTATIONAL INTERFACES

Options available to the designer of a fiber optic system that must incorporate a rotating interface are outlined. Of the four alternatives considered, the fiber optic rotary joint is seen to be the best and most versatile. The design considerations in the selection of a rotary joint are reviewed, and technological innovations in integrated fiber optics are discussed briefly.
