CLASSIFYING CRUISE SHIPS

The design of cruise ships has changed considerably since the 1970s, as owners compete to attract new passengers. The growing market has coincided with increasingly complex regulations, and this has broadened the responsibilities of the classification societies. Some of these responsibilities are summarized, including those relating to watertight integrity, fire prevention, piping systems, lifesaving appliances and structural arrangements.
