IMPROVING THE ICE-GOING CAPABILITY OF THE ICEBREAKER MUD'YUG
The results achieved by retrofitting the Soviet icebreaker MUD'YUG with a new bow having a shape based on the Thyssen-Waas icebreaking principle are described. The goal of the refitting was to increase the vessel's ice-going capability by a factor of at least 1.5 without any changes in its power plant and without affecting its clear water performance.
