OCEAN DISPOSAL OF LIQUID PETROCHEMICAL WASTES
Although ocean disposal of liquid petrochemical wastes has been practiced for a number of years, the dispersion and dilution phenomenon of the waste in the wake of a barge has not been well understood. A reevaluation of the data from previous case histories including two recent ocean disposal studies conducted by the authors is presented. The data analysis permitted the development of a basic dilution equation that adequately describes the waste dispersion from each of the dumping studies. Constants in the equation relate to the velocity of the barge, rate of discharge of the waste and specific gravity of the waste. /Author/
