A STUDY ON PROPELLER PERFORMANCE AND VIBRATORY BEARING FORCES AND MOMENTS INDUCED BY WAVES AND SHIP MOTIONS
In this work, the author attempted to estimate the fluctuations of propeller loads, and the vibratory bearing propeller force and moment applying the unsteady aerofoil theory and the theoretical calculations of ship motions based on the so called New Strip Method (N.S.M.) in oblique regular waves. Theoretical calculations by the present method have been compared with the model and the actual ship experiments, and have shown to be in good agreement with both of them. The results of the present work are summarized as follows; 1) The fluctuations of the propeller loads are linearly dependent on wave heights, as long as the theory of ship motions is treated linearly. 2) Predominant components in the amplitude of these fluctuations have been made clear that wave orbital motion contributes exceedingly, the component of encounter circular frequency omega in the 3) When the number of the blades of the propeller is even, the component of encounter circular frequency we in the fluctuations of bearing force and moment is shown to vanish by theoretical analysis, and these phenomena are confirmed by the results of actual and model ship experiments.
