BEARING CAPACITY OF A FOOTING ON AN ANGLE OF SHEARING RESISTANCE = 0 SOIL WITH LINEARLY VARYING SHEAR STRENGTH
The note briefly describes the method of determining the value of the bearing capacity of a strip footing on a soil with an angle of shearing resistance = 0 when the increase in shear strength "C" is linear with depth from zero. The corresponding average pressure in first determined using both kinematic and static theorem of limit analysis and proved to be equal to (cb/4a) where b is the width of the footing. In the case of a weightless Coulomb material the problem is resolved in the same way. /TRRL/
