NOTE ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE VISCOUS AND WAVEMAKING COMPONENT RESISTANCES
It is customary to assume that the resistance of a hull at uniform speed may be regarded as the sum of viscous and wavemaking component resistances, or C sub t equals C sub v plus C sub w, where C sub v is regarded as a function of Reynolds number r and C sub w a function of Froude number F. Formulas have been obtained for delta C sub w/delta R, delta C sub v/delta F and various other derivatives which may be relevant in seeking theoretical grounds for possible interaction between viscous and wavemaking component resistances. By recourse to the experimental results for one particular series of geometrically similar models, the numerical values of these derivatives have been computed and the results are given in graphical form. There is evidence of a certain degree of interaction between the component resistances.
