TANK COATINGS
The efficiency--and therefore the value--of ships in the chemicals and products trades is in large measure determined by the condition and effectiveness of their tank coatings. This is the first in a series of articles reviewing trends in this important market. Its first section discusses the degrading effects of methanol upon tank coatings and notes that the use of zinc silicate can help solve the problem. The rest of the article is devoted to descriptions of Maxi-cote, a new coating developed by NALFLEET for corrosion control in ballast tanks, and Camkote MX, a new tank coating developed by Camrex and claimed to be a breakthrough in chemical tank protection.
