STIRLING MACHINES: FROM POTENTIAL TO PRACTICALITY
Although the relatively high cost of Stirling engines still stands in the way of their mass production and use, they may soon become widely used in special applications, including small submarines. The way in which these engines work is explained, with accompanying illustrations. The challenges that confront designers by way of needed improvements are discussed, as are the efforts being directed toward research on Stirling engines by governments and industries throughout the world.
