INTEGRATION OF A FUEL CHARACTERISATION EXPERT SYSTEM WITH DIESEL ENGINE SIMULATION
The authors describe the integration of a fuel characterization expert system with a diesel engine computer simulation program. The work reported here constitutes the first stage of the development of a research project in diesel engine design and operation with variable quality fuels. The fuel-oil characterization expert system generates maps of fuel classes that depict specific effects on pertinent engine performance criteria. The properties and limits that define each class are identified by rule induction from engine tests and fuel chemical parameters.
