ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THE GERMAN FEDERAL RAILWAY'S CLASS 627-628 DIESEL RAILCARS
DIE ELEKTRISCHE ANLAGE DER DIESELTRIEBWAGEN BAUREIHE 627 UND 628 DER DEUTSCHEN BUNDESBAHN
A new diesel railcar, classed as 627 for the single unit and as 628 for the double unit, has been developed by the DB's Central Research Office in Munich together with manufacturers as a replacement for the 795/798 two-axle rail-bus. The Author describes the layout and operation of the new railcar's electrical system, with special reference to the engine control and monitoring equipment; it is the first time that all-electronic controls have been applied to a diesel traction unit. Also described are the 110.V power supply, the driver's console and the safety and ancillary equipment.
