ICEBREAKING THEORY DEVELOPMENT BY SEGMENTED MODEL TESTS: REFINEMENT OF TECHNIQUE
This report describes a further refinement of a segmented model of the CCGS PIERRE RADISSON. The original model was developed to study the mechanisms of icebreaking. In the present phase of the research, the segments, the segment support system and the data acquisition system were modified. In addition, an extensive program was designed to calibrate all segments and assess their accuracy. Subsequent ice tests showed that a level of segment accuracy has been achieved that warrants application of the updated segmented model approach to further investigations of icebreaking mechanisms. Volume 2 is comprised of appendices that contain statistical data supporting the main report.
