MODEL TEST FOR CAORF PANAMA CANAL STUDY, VOLUME 4
This document is one of four reports on a series of scale model tests carried out at the Swedish Maritime Research Centre (SSPA) as part of the CAORF Panama Canal Study. The volume describes three different model test series conducted in a shallow channel with sloping banks: (1) measurements of line forces, fender reactions, and motions at various line pre-tension levels on a model moored near the side bank during the passage of another, similar model; (2) measurements of mooring forces and motions on a line-moored model due to swells of various sizes; and (3) measurements of swell- induced exciting forces on a stationary, captive model parked near the side bank in a mooring position. It was found that the forces measured on the captive model are, in general, significantly higher than those measured on the line-moored model. The concluding section contains a final review of, and an index to, the entire four-volume report. For related documents, see AN 8861 through AN 8863.
