PROTOTYPE EXPERT SYSTEM FOR CONTAINER SHIP STOWAGE PLANNING
This is a two-volume report on a project that consisted primarily of building and testing a prototype expert system to provide decision making support to persons who are responsible for planning stowage aboard containerships. Volume 1, Technical Report, presents the details of the development of the system, which was written in Turbo Prolog and was formulated on the basis of an actual loading configuration for a Farrell Lines vessel. Volume 2, User's Manual, describes the design and operation of the expert system and documents details of the rules for container placement guidelines and restrictions.
