MANAGEMENT OF GRASS
The article advocates a realistic approach by local authorities to grass management related to the biology of the plants. The biological process governing the growth of grass is described. Standards of grass cutting can vary depending upon the area, use to which the grassed areas are put, and type of grass. Three types are suggested 1) a hard wearing short turf for recreation 2) fine untrodden turf sound prestige buildings and 3) untrodden coarser grassed amenity areas by roadside. Results of a series of experiments to find out the average height of vegetation at different times of the year are given. Mechanical and chemical methods of weed control are also listed. /TRRL/
