SUPERCONDUCTING D.C. MACHINES--CONCERNING MAINLY MARINE PROPULSION BUT WITH MENTION OF INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
This paper discusses of superconducting d.c. motors and generators with particular regard to civil marine propulsion. It commences with a brief account of the factors which help to ensure reliability and proceeds to enumerate the advantages which are expected from superconducting d.c. marine propulsion systems. Following a mention of a practical demonstration of the latter, now under test at IRD (International Research and Development Company Limited, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne), the paper concludes with assessment of the general market for the machines. Also included in the paper is some mention of industrial applications for these new machines. /Author/
