DEVELOPMENTS IN HIGHWAY BRIDGE BEAMS OF TYPE BT 50 AND BT 70 MANUFACTURED ON PRESTRESSING BEDS

DIE ENTWICKLUNG IN SPANNBETT HERGESTELLTER STRASSENBRUECKENTRAEGER BT 50 UND BT 70

As part of the new programme of motorway construction, bridge beams bt 70 nsp and bt 50 nsp were designed and manufactured by the prestressing bed method. The construction requirements vary according to the particular aspects of each structure and technology, but they did not agree with those of corresponding specifications and guidelines. In order to obtain official approval from the German construction academy, a large number of tests were carried out. Dynamic and static ultimate load tests were conducted on 1/1-scale beams together with tests on welded reinforcing elements for bridges. Non-destructive tests on concrete were carried out by ultrasonic techniques at given points on a beam. Results were satisfactory as regards strength in the zone of prestressing transfer. /TRRL/
