INJURIES CAUSED BY GLASS IN MOTOR VEHICLES

BLESSURES DUES AU VERRE DANS LES VEHICULES A MOTEUR

The history of safety glass is outlined together with the development of two types of safety glass in the automotive industry: toughened glass and laminated glass. The mechanisms of injuries occurring when the head hits each type of windscreen are described, and results are presented of a study of real accidents involving toughened windscreens and the new HPR laminated windscreens. The results of this study show that laminated glass causes less injuries and less severe injuries than toughened glass. The problem of eye injuries is also mentioned. /TRRL/
