ALTERATIONS IN PULSE FREQUENCY IN DRIVERS IN DRIVING SITUATIONS OF VARYING DIFFICULTY

PULSFREQUENZAENDERUNGEN BEI KRAFTFAHRERN IN FAHRSITUATIONEN UNTERSCHIEDLICHER SCHWIERIGKEIT

Measurements of pulse rates were made on 6 inexperienced and 6 experienced drivers during the execution of nine driving school situations of varying difficulty. The following facts were established: 1- that pulse rate is considerably increased during car driving; 2- that inexperienced drivers have greater increases in pulse rate than experienced drivers; 3- that, particularly with the experienced drivers, there is a positive and close relation between the difficulty of a situation and the pulse rate and/or its increase; 4- that inexperienced drivers have heart-beat characteristics which are different from those of experienced drivers; and 5- that the alterations in the pulse rates and the differences in pulse rates of inexperienced and experienced drivers can be attributed on the one hand to the situational requirements and on the other hand to the varying types of administration. /TRRL/
