MARINE WIRE ROPE MATERIALS
Failures of wire ropes are discussed in relation to various forms of corrosion, to mechanical problems and to attachment of fittings. Methods of evaluating the corrosion resistance of selected wire rope materials are illustrated, along with a discussion of the analysis and interpretation of test results as they may be associated with actual service performance. The life expectancy of some of the existing wire rope materials is estimated for given conditions of use.
