EXXON'S COMPLIANT PLATFORM COULD OPERATE IN 2,000-FT WATER
An offshore oil platform designed to operate in 1,500 feet of water of a new slender, cost-saving configuration, designed to comply or move with the waves to some extent. The platform structure is of a trussed configuration and held upright by guys which are anchored in the ocean bottom. Details of the platform design, with its various components and equipment, are discussed. Engineering and operational descriptions and a test program to be carried out in the Gulf of Mexico during the second half of 1975 will provide test data during the 1975-76 winter months for this one-fifth scale model. This guyed tower appears to offer significant cost savings over conventional platforms from about 600 feet of water out to about 2,000 feet.
