SHIP RESISTANCE-RETROSPECT AND PROSPECT
Discusses the development of the laws of ship resistance, from the time of Froude to the present. Froude's experiments are described, and the concept of component resistances is also discussed at some length. Advances in experimental methods to determine local ship friction, hull pressure, total viscous resistance and wave resistance are described. The physics of ship resistance, model resistance experiments, and full scale resistance tests on several actual ships are provided.
