RAILKO'S REINFORCED PLASTIC MARINE BEARINGS FOR SUPERTANKERS
A new alternative to white metal stern shaft bearings is attracting considerable attention among those concerned with the operation of large vessels. This new bearing is made of reinforced plastic and was developed for use with oil lubrication. Past problems encountered with the white metal bearing and the advantages which the plastic bearing offer are also given. Lubrication of the bearing, and advantages of using a plastic material instead of metal, are discussed, as is retro-fitting a metal bearing with this new reinforced plastic one.
