MODERN CUTTER AND TRAILING SUCTION DREDGER DESIGN
Dredgers can be separated into two groups - mechanical and hydraulic. Each can be split into distinct types with several variations on each. This article looks at two of the principal types of suction dredgers, namely the cutter-suction and trailer-suction types, and considers in some detail the development of the dredging pump used in these systems. The operation of the dredgers, dredge design criteria, and various types of hopper discharge systems which are used in conjunction with dredging operations are described.
