A SIMULATION MODEL FOR PORTS MANAGEMENT TRAINING
This article describes the use of the Variable Incident Simulation Apparatus, which can provide trainees with useful experience in port management within the confines of the laboratory. The equipment is capable of determining the effects of various delays on port operations, and alternative policies can be tested. A single delay factor may be used in the simulation in order to highlight its individual effect on the overall operation. Various system equipment is described, and the design of the simulation model is also discussed. The author believes that while this exercise does not simulate perfectly the total port system, nevertheless it is a valuable tool for port management training purposes.
