THE PRESENT AND FUTURE ROLE OF COMPUTERS IN WIDE AREA TRAFFIC CONTROL
This article describes the main features of a typical area traffic control (ATC) system. The functions of the system are first outlined. Three main components of system hardware are distinguished and described: the computer system, the data transmission equipment; the control room equipment. The system software is then outlined: standard software (programme development software and system organiser software); the standard traffic control software (standard to any ATC system); programs special to particular systems The concluding section considers extensions to the system given that initial requirement of atc system is required to be half the design capacity. /TRRL/
