THE QUESTION OF SUITABLE HEAT INSULATION FOR PAVEMENTS
ZUR FRAGE DER GEEIGNETEN WAERMEDAEMMUNG VON FAHRBAHNBEFESTIGUNGEN
Basic questions relating to frost penetration into the pavement and the heat conductivity of various materials are discussed, together with the problems that these cause in design. After studying the results of measurements carried out on experimental roads and making cost-benefit calculations, the author concludes that in areas with natural rock deposits the best solution is an asphaltic concrete pavement containing a relatively open-textured sub-base made of coated chippings. /TRRL/
