NECOR SEA BEAM DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT
Sea Beam multibeam seafloor mapping systems have changed the way many oceanographic surveys are carried out, and the quality of their results, because of the following characteristics: (1) the real-time displays of seafloor topography, which can be used to navigate the vessel during surveys and related operations; (2) the increased shipboard navigation and computing capabilities required for system support; and (3) the complete areal coverage of large regions that they provide for registration and combination with other geophysical data. This article details the capabilities that have been developed for one such multibeam system, that of the Northeast Consortium for Oceanographic Research (NECOR).
