PARKING IN AMSTERDAM
At noon some 29.000 cars are parked on the public road in the City Centre of Amsterdam, 20,000 of which occupy legal parking lots. The parking garages in this part of the city have a capacity of 3,000 lots. There are no plans to further extend the total parking capacity of the City Centre. Studies have been conducted to see whether so-called parking-districts could be introduced, in which case their street area would be regarded as one big parking-area and the control would take place at the periphery of the district. At night and at the weekends the regular parking-capacity of the public road in the old residential zone around the City Centre is exceeded by 14%. The solution to the parking problem in this area has to be found within the framework of urban renovation. /TRRL/
