CONCRETE SURFACE WITH A HIGH RESISTANCE TO STUDDED TYRES
BETONNBERFLAECHEN MIT HOHEM WIDERSTAND GEGEN SPIKES
In order to facilitate the selection of good concrete mixtures and aggregates an internal drum testing machine was developed in which studded tyres run on samples of road surfacings. The wear is only great at the beginning while fine mortar still covers the coarse aggregate. As soon as the coarse aggregate is exposed, the concrete has a 10-20 times greater resistance to the studded tyres. By using as great a proportion as possible of clean coarse aggregate from particularly wear-resistance rock, the wear strength can be increased 2 to 4 times. In comparison to this, the improvements brought about by the admixture of hard materials of synthetic resin dispersions seem small (in a favourable case 20 percent). Epoxy resin mortars are just as wear resistant as good road concrete. Old surfacings with an unusually high degree of wear can be repaired by grinding down the raised areas between the tracks which are made of soft mortar. /TRRL/
