TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION AND RESULTING DEFORMATIONS IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS
LA DISTRIBUCION DE TEMPERATURA Y SUS COMPONENTES DE DEFORMACION EN VIGAS DE CONCRETEO PRETENSADO
This article describes a detailed study of temperature distribution and deformation of prestressed concrete box girders, 35 and 46 M long, which were used to build the deck of the bridge over the maracaibo lake. Temperatures were measured with electronic contact thermometers, and deformations caused by variations in temperature were recorded with strain gauges and observations of vertical movements. The results show that temperature distribution in the cross-section of the girder tends to be parabolic. There exists a phase difference between the extreme values of temperature and deformation. /TRRL/
