MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE TUBULAR STRUCTURE OF A BUILDING RESISTANT OF EARTHQUAKES
MODELO MATEMATICO PARA ESTRUCTURA TUBULAR DE EDIFICIO ANTISISMICO
The temporary Venezuelan specification for buildings resistant to earthquakes prescribes a limited lateral deformability but a basically flexible behaviour in order to reduce dynamic response. Such a structure is obtained if columns are built very near each other and rigidly linked together within the perimeter of the structure. Angle columns are eliminated so as to increase the interaction of the four walls of the structure. A mathematical model is derived which assumes plane frames and which is based on the comparison of deformations taken into account in the following 2 hypotheses: with or without transfer of shear forces at the angles of the structure (tubular effect) and consideration or not for each hypothesis of axial deformations of the columns.
