STUDIES OF PRESENT TRAFFIC

ESTUDIOS DEL TRAFICO ACTUAL Y SUPROYECCION

The author recalls that knowledge of urban traffic is based on precise data on journey time, speed, delays and traffic density, and that traffic conditions are illustrated in isochrone curves. The importance is stressed of knowing the density of traffic, the composition of traffic flow and the physical characteristics of the road network. Traffic motivation studies must be conducted by means of door-to-door surveys, interviews or letters. Models can be used to investigate traffic origins and destinations, and traffic distribution. Factors influencing journeys, such as dimensions of a town, public transport services, vehicle ownership, distance to the town centre, traffic motivation, etc. Must be taken into account. Traffic forecasting methods are discussed together with town planning of the future. The covering abstract of the conference is IRRD abstract no.100998. /TRRL/
