THE ECONOMICS OF THE FULL-DEPTH METHOD
BEITRAG ZUR FRAGE DER WIRTSCHAFTLICHKEIT DES ASPHALTOBERBAUES
The full-depth method of pavement construction, i.e., replacing the conventional frost blanket by an additional layer of asphalt, has been the major point of technical and economic considerations in recent months. The results from road experiments leave no doubt that the full-depth method compares well with the conventional frost blanket of sand and gravel or crushed stone. However, the method will only be generally accepted if it is comparable in economic terms as well. The paper compares the costs of both methods and discusses the conditions under which the costs of the full-depth method might be the same as those of the conventional frost blanket. /TRRL/
