SUGGESTIONS FOR THE DEFINITION OF SOME CALCULATION ELEMENTS

Lately the so-called "national methods", based on the standardisation of the elastic multi-layer system, have come into widespread use in Italy for the thickness design of flexible pavements. Although the behaviour of road materials is not strictly elastic, the calculation theory can take account of the elements whose initial and long-term behaviour is known. The paper provides contributions to the definition of load, repetitive loading, mechanical characteristics of road materials, and characterisation of critical conditions. /TRRL/
