BERING SEA WINTER ICE EDGE DATA COLLECTION ABOARD USCGC POLAR SEA
Environmental and ship performance data were collected in the Bering Sea Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ) aboard the USCGC POLAR SEA in April 1986. Volume 1 of this three volume set of reports describes the results of environmental and operational studies in the MIZ. Topics covered include characterization of ice conditions; meteorological conditions observed during the vessel's deployment; evaluation of anti-icing coatings; and evaluation of cold weather clothing. Volume 2 presents the results of measurements of local hull-ice impact loads under varying ice conditions in the MIZ. Volume 3 reports on a study that analyzed various loadings resulting from propeller-ice interactions.
