NAVARIN BASIN AND ICE EDGE DATA COLLECTION ABOARD USCGC POLAR SEA
Environmental and ship performance data were collected in the Bering Sea aboard USCGC POLAR SEA during March and April 1985. This was the tenth phase of a multiyear program to assess the operational feasibility of a year-round transportation system serving Alaska. The first volume describes the measured and observed ice conditions, as well as meteorological conditions during the deployment. Volume 2 describes the instrumentation system used to measure ice milling loads during the deployment and the results of that program. Volume 3 reports on field tests conducted during the deployment to investigate personnel safety and survival on ice.
