SOIL STABILIZATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HAMBURG- FLENSBURG-KIEL MOTORWAY
BODENVERFESTIGUNG BEIN DER BAB HAMBURG-FLENSBURG /KIEL
Most of the motorway subgrade consists of uniform, frostproof fine sand. By means of cement stabilization it provides a good support for the bituminous roadbase. Since coarser road materials are not available in Schleswig- Holstein, the method was also very economical. The contract specifications for the 15 cm thick stabilized layer are described, including compressive strength after 28 days (50-125 kg/sq.cm); compaction (103% Proctor density); difference in level (between +1 and -4 cm). In addition, the mixing and compaction equipment is described and illustrated. /TRRL/
