ANALYSIS OF VEHICLE NOISES AND WAYS OF CALCULATING THESE

For lorries and cars of the small and average size groups, in which the engine is the major source of noise, formulae are given for calculating noise inside the vehicle. With several vehicles it was established that the calculated A- noise levels deviate by + or - 2 db(a) from the measured values. The differences established are still within conventional measurement tolerances and scatter. Thus the accuracy of the proposed method can be regarded as confirmed. Because of the number of influencing factors one has to reckon on determining a- noise levels up to 6 db(a) when the method of calculation is used. Given the dominating contribution of airborne noise, only differences of up to 4 db(a) are to be expected. The method of calculation may for example be used for the prediction of noise test values from construction areas and for the determination of accoustic influencing factors for the retention of limit values. /TRRL/
