EARLY PERFORMANCE OF SOME ANTI-STRIPPING AGENTS IN ONTARIO PAVEMENTS
Annual examinations of contracts containing anti-stripping additives were conducted, as well as examinations of some other contracts which were either borderline cases or cases which were thought to have needed additives but were placed without any. Four anti-strippinmg additives were used: hydrated lime, two additives of excellent heat stability (retains 100 percent effectiveness after 5 days storage in asphalt cement at 350 degrees F or 176.7 degrees C), and one additive of somewhat reduced heat stability (lesser effectiveness after 3 days storage in asphalt cement at 350 degrees F or 176.7 degrees C ). This report contains a description of the evaluation of these contracts, with some tentative conclusions.
