DEVELOPMENT STUDY OF A SINGLE POINT MOORING SYSTEM FOR A FLOATING OIL/GAS PRODUCTION SYSTEM IN THE OPEN SEA
A single point mooring system with process/storage barge, i.e., the floating production, storage and off-loading (FPSO) system is being proposed and constructed for early production. One of the most important aspects of the FPSO system under severe environmental conditions is a mooring system. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., has developed a "CTM" (Catenary & Tower Mooring) system, a new mooring system applicable in severe environment. This paper first introduces the results of the feasibility study for this new type of mooring system, CTM. Next the results of a fundamental test of a lower universal joint are briefly presented. Finally, the results of tank tests in waves, wind current and ice and their applicability to practical problems are described.
