An historical account is given of legal aspects of public lighting, together with a brief description of acts affecting England and wales, and acts relating to Scotland. These acts were:- the lighting and watching act of 1830; the lighting and watching act of 1833; public health act, 1875; road traffic act, 1934; trunk road act of 1936; parish councils' act 1957; highways act 1959; the public health act of 1961; local government act of 1966; local government act, 1972-England and Wales; Scotland - the Burch police (Scotland) act 1892; road traffic act 1934 - section 41(8) (I); trunk road act, 1936 - section 6(4); the local government (Scotland) act, 1966. /TRRL/
