DEVELOPMENT OF A LARGE AUTOMATIC ULTRASONIC PLATE TESTING INSTALLATION WITH ONLINE COMPUTER DATA OUTPUT
An automatic plate testing installation was developed and installed into the plate production line of the Hoesch Steelworks in Dortmund, West Germany. The plate tester works directly into an online computer, and thus the plate material is instantaneously classified in accordance with the existing specification, which is part of the computer-stored program. In addition, the test installation/computer combination minimizes the plate reject rate by a selection program against existing orders, by size, quality and ultrasonic classification. /Author/
