NEW COATING DEVELOPMENTS, PROBLEMS, AND TRENDS IN THE PIPELINE INDUSTRY
This paper addresses the problem of how to select an external pipe coating. Comparisons are made of several generic type coatings, as well as a comparison of mill applied coatings to over-the-ditch type coatings. A brief description is given of each test performed, and test results are illustrated graphically. A discussion is then made of the inherent problems encountered in the application and field handling. Measures that can be employed in order to compensate for these problems and help insure a quality job are pointed out. Finally, a new joint coating system for thin film coatings is described along with procedures for both mill and field applications.
