ACCELERATED TESTING
Methods for accelerated strength testing of concrete are briefly reviewed and a test method, taking 24 hours, is described. The latter method has been evaluated by the New Zealand Concrete Research Association. Concrete specimens are placed in water at 55 plus or minus 20 degrees C for 21.5 hours and then in water at 20 plus or minus 50 degrees C for 1 hour. Concretes ranged in compressive strength from 9.0 to 67.0 MPa. Accelerated strengths were compared with 28 day standard cured strengths and a correlation coefficient of 0.93 was obtained. This accelerated curing technique is only applicable where the major factor limiting the concrete strength is the binder. /TRRL/
