A COMPARISON OF RAPID CLASSIFICATION METHODS FOR JUDGING THE SUITABILITY OF SAND FOR SAND-CEMENT STABILIZATION
EEN VERGELIJKING VAN DIVERSE SNELLE METHODEN TER BEOORDELING VAN DE GESCHIKTHEID VAN ZAND VOOR ZANDCEMENTSTABILISATIE
A number of rapid classification methods for judging the suitability of sand for sand-cement stabilization has been compared with the suitability test according to the Rijkswterstaat specifications by the State Road Laboratory. In the last-named test the mixing procedure of the sand and cement and the compaction and hardening of the mixture in practice are fairly well simulated, thus giving the most reliable information about the stabilizability of the sand within a relatively short time (7 days). Only some 20 samples of sands that were expected to be unsuitable for stabilization with cement have been tested. It appeared from the test results that the fulvic acid test and the ph-determination with blastfurnace slag cement are most suitable for a rapid determination of the suitability of sand for sand-cement stabilization.
