BINDERS MODIFIED WITH ADMIXTURES
LOS LIGANTES MODIFICADOS CON ADITIVOS
The modification of bituminous binders with admixtures has two basic aims: to improve the bond between binder and aggregates, and to modify the rheological characteristics of the binder and its sensitivity to temperature changes. To improve bond, three types of admixture can be used: tar, anti-stripping agents and air. The improvement of rheological characteristics is obtained with organic admixtures such as elastomers and synthetic resins or inorganic admixtures in the form of limestone filler, portland cement or silica. The effects of these admixtures and improvements obtained are discussed. /TRRL/
