AUTOCORRELATION FUNCTIONS IN STEREOSCOPY
Autocorrelation functions, which are computed in automatic plotters during heighting measurements, are derived for circular targets for which steroscopic pointing precisions for a human observer are known. A parameter, AUTOPROD, is derived from the percentage decrease in the auto-correlation function multipled by the target diameter. A simple relationship has been derived between AUTOPROD and pointing precision which agrees with findings of physiologists. The investigation indicates that pointing precision basically depends on the quality and length of the target border. /Author/
