INTERSTITIAL PRESSURES ON ROCK FOUNDATIONS OF DAMS
Emmons comments on the authors' attempt to bring uplift theory in line with experience, and on their suggestion that continuous uplift and drainage records from functioning dams are needed. Urena discusses the authors' approach to the problem of the percolation of reservoir water through the foundations of concrete dams. He comments on the authors' demonstration of the necessity for attention in stratified ground to the influence of the closing of the joints. Mathematical formulas are shown for the time lag. The writer also discusses the use of the grout curtain as a means of reducing the width of the joints, and the effectiveness of drains.
